As told from our Founder's point of view:
"This whole situation has made me physically sick. Daisy was one of the dogs who was part of last week's owner surrender. We met several of the dogs from this home and gathered video. They were all in good condition overall and all of the dogs that were heart worm tested were negative, including Daisy.
The first photo is Daisy on death row. The second photo is Daisy being handed over to animal control by her owner. The third photo is Daisy's freedom ride which happened yesterday. The transport driver called immediately because Daisy has a terrible cough and was hacking. Thinking she had caught an URI we took her directly to the vet. Daisy's vet called to ask me about her cough. I described it as a cough and hacking that dogs have when they are high heart worm positive. I knew that couldn't be the reason because she is heart worm negative. Daisy's vet said her lungs sound clear, her nose is clear, there is no mucus, etc,. The vet asked me if I knew that one side of Daisy's face was swollen and had an abscess. What the vet said next broke my heart and makes me very mad. After examining Daisy and reviewing her shelter records, Daisy's vet believes she suffered an injury to her face from the catch pole. That injury was not treated so it turned into an abscess. The coughing and hacking is believed to be from damage done to her throat by the catch pole. Daisy's vet said she read the notes in Daisy's shelter records stating "beware of dog" and then commented that Daisy has a "sweet soul" and gave her no issues during her visit. In fact, quite the opposite. Daisy was happy to be pet and shown kindness.
What does this mean? Well, in short, it means that Daisy was injured while in the custody of animal control (there is a photo of Daisy's owner loading her, so she was not injured by her owner as he was not using a catchpole). It also means that she was denied vet care by the shelter after they knew she was injured.
My mind has been on the three seniors from Daisy's home who were taken to their death on the end of catch poles while under the tag of this rescue. The last thing those dogs knew was aggression at the hands of ACS. Charges need to be filed against the animal control officers that mistreated Daisy and we are going to pursue that. Charges also need to be filed for failure to provide medical care to the Daisy after they injured her and we are going to pursue that matter."
What Daisy needs is a committed foster. Fosters must reside in an area where we have vet care available. Those areas are Greenville, San Antonio and Canton. We do accept fosters in parts of the DFW Area. Daisy also needs donations for her medical care and boarding.
If you cannot foster or donate to Daisy's care, please share her story. Daisy says, "Woof!!" Thank you for your support.
