When a Senior Dog sheds their pain and limitations, and runs to the RAINBOW BRIDGE, we are often left with a mountain of unpaid medical bills in their name.
Please help us continue on our mission of saving Senior and death-row dogs by making a one-time donation, or by signing up to become a monthly donor.
Classroom Canines is the 501(c) (3) and Pound Pals is the DBA.
Donations are tax deductible.

Blackie arrived at our rescue in April 2015, severely injured with maggots on his tail and a bleeding mass on his spleen. After a life-saving blood transfusion and emergency surgery, followed by weeks of hydrotherapy, he began to heal. A year and a half later, a five-pound tumor was successfully removed from his leg. Blackie spent three and a half wonderful years at Pound Pals, bringing joy and embodying our mission.
This post will remain as both a memorial to our beloved Blackie and a beacon for every soul who visits our page. Blackie is the heart of what rescue means — a testament to second chances, healing, and unconditional love.
Blackie said many times: "Woof!! Thank you to everyone who helped me along my journey. Please don’t forget me. And please don’t overlook senior shelter dogs like me — we may be older, but we have so much love left to give. Sometimes all we need is someone to believe we’re worth saving. I’ll be waiting on the other side of the rainbow bridge."
Wimble knew how important vet funding is to the senior and special needs pets that call Pound Pals home. When Wimble was scheduled to be killed at a pound due, he (fortunately) found his way to Pound Pals and received the medical care he needed. His MRI determined that he had Cerebellar Hypoplasia which meant the part of his brain that coordinated movement was smaller than usual. Wimble had been that way his entire life but he never let his special diagnosis hinder him. Joyful, loving, and full of happiness, Wimble saw every dog as a friend and every moment as a gift. It's heartbreaking to think his story could’ve ended before it even began—just for being his sweet, special self. Wimble wanted every special needs dog to have the same chance he did, and he knew vet funding makes that possible.
Wimble would have said: "Woof!" — let’s raise some vet funds and save more lives!"
Jerry Lee, once known only as Animal ID A607093, was a stray who had endured unimaginable hardship. When Animal Control in Texas found him, he couldn’t walk and was at risk of euthanasia. Thankfully, Jerry Lee was given a second chance at Pound Pals. This wasn’t an easy rescue given Jerry Lee had a torn eye, one of many injuries indicating he had been a bait dog, and, heartbreakingly, he also had a tumor behind his injured eye. Despite these cruelties, Jerry Lee’s spirit remained unbroken. Perhaps he clung to the hope of a brighter tomorrow, filled with love and kindness.
Jerry Lee showed the world that even senior dogs deserve a second chance. His story remains a heartwarming reminder that every life matters, and sometimes the roughest exteriors hide the most precious gems.
The saddest day of Knox’s life was the day he lost the only home he’d ever known—his flea pit. We saw neglect. Knox saw comfort. He had spent nine long years there. In dog years, that’s 63. Imagine being ripped away after 63 years and not knowing why. Suddenly he was in a loud shelter, then a vet's office—strangers, sounds, and smells he’d never known. He’d never even seen a vet before. Knox was scared, confused, and grieving. Because dogs love deeply, even when they’re mistreated. And Knox cried—for his person, for his flea pit, for the only life he knew.
But then came Pound Pals. And with time, patience, and love, the sadness began to fade. Three years later, Knox no longer missed his chain or the scorching summers or the ice storm he survived. The dog who once only dreamed of love now lived in it.
Knox ‘s hope for a better life came true - one day at a time and years later Knox surely thought: "Wowzers! I look and feel like a new man!"
AND HE WAS.
