You may remember Knox's introduction post over 3 years ago - "Reflecting on Knox's life and the beginning of his journey at Pound Pals.
The saddest day in Knox's life was the day he was removed from what we call his flea pit. Knox called it his home. His home of 9 years (in human years) In dog years, this was his home for 63 years. Think about that - think about being pulled away from the only home you have every had after 63 years and how terrifying that alone would be.
Add to that his brief stay at the noisy pound and his current stay with his vet team. This dog has never seen a vet. He doesn't know who these people are or what they are doing to him.
Dogs love their owners - even neglectful owners and that is where Knox is currently on his journey. The volunteer who picked him up from the pound yesterday afternoon and got him on transport this morning said he cried and cried last night.... until he cried himself to sleep. He cried for his human and he cried for his flea pit.
Once he was asleep, he slept so hard that she had to pet him to wake him. Knox was on a 6 hour transport today. When I asked the transporter how he did, she said he never even changed his position.
Knox is just drained. His body has been fighting neglect for a long time but he was at "home" with humans he rarely saw but loved. Now he is among strangers and while part of that long hard sleep he took last night had to be because he no longer feels fleas biting him, part of it is from total mental exhaustion due to the abrupt change in his life.
While we are celebrating Knox's new chapter in his life, please remember that right now, he has a different view point than we do. He doesn't know how great his life is going to be. Right now, he just knows nothing in his life is familiar and that is a scary place to be. Let's lift Knox up in prayer. May all his tomorrows be filled with love and understanding."
Fast Forward To Present Day (Three years later) - Knox no longer misses his flea pit. Knox spent 9 years on a chain, weathering the hot Texas summers and the big ice storm of 2020, all the while dreaming of a better life....longing to be loved.... hoping to belong. Although, Knox still has chronic skin issues, chronic ear issues and scarred skin where hair will never grow, his hope for a better life has come true - one day at a time and 2 years later .... Knox says, "Wowzers! I look and feel like a new man!"
