When we first met Rubeus, he was just another Big Black Old Blind (this is called four strikes in the pound) dog, who was out of time in a high-kill shelter. He didn't stand a chance of seeing the light of day, even if he could see.
Nobody wanted him. Nobody. Because they didn't want an Old Dog. Because they didn't want a Blind Dog. Because they didn't want a Black Dog. Because they didn't want the inconvenience of a Special Needs Dog. Or the medical expense of a Big Black Blind Old Dog.
Rubeus didn't have to have vision to "see" that he was unwanted.
When Pound Pals saw him - standing there, blind and wearing a choker, which clearly indicated a long life on the end of a chain - Pound Pals wanted him. And worked very hard to get him into a foster home and they still work hard 7 years later to provide care for his multiple medical needs.
